Local SEO might not always be the one that makes headlines, but it certainly drives results. And our latest awards shortlisting shows just that.

Our work with Perrys Accountants has been a real success story from the start; thanks to clear objectives and a team that really values SEO. We knew exactly what Perrys wanted to achieve and we drew on our experience to get them there.

And it’s thanks to that great working relationship that we have achieved so much.

Beth Nash, Smart Monkey founder, said, “Being shortlisted at the UK Agency Awards is an incredible achievement. Not only that, but it’s the second year running we’ve been shortlisted – after winning an award last year. As a small agency, it can feel like a challenge to compete with larger agencies, but it’s actually our size that allows us to be more reactive and deliver these incredible results for our clients.

“Getting recognised at a national level really cements our strategic approach and expertise in delivering impactful results and reflects our ability to punch above our weight and showcase our effectiveness in the competitive SEO landscape.”

Our work started with setting clear objectives, together with the client, to help them get to where they needed to be. We set out to:

  1. Strengthen SEO Foundations: We aimed to create a technically sound website, ensuring it was clean and efficient.
  2. Boost Local Visibility: Our focus was to enhance the online presence of Perrys London branches.
  3. Increase Traffic and Authority: By driving high volumes of targeted traffic, we sought to establish Perrys as a leading player against more established competitors.
  4. Support Digital Transformation: We facilitated the digital integration of two physical branches into one central location on the Strand in London.

We set clear KPIs that we knew would get Perrys to where they needed to be:

  • Increase Leads: From 60 to 100 leads per month.
  • Achieve Top 3 Local Map Pack Ranking: For the keyword “accountant London”.
  • Secure Page 1 Rankings: For the term “accountant London”.

In order to hit these KPIs and deliver for the business, we drew on our experience optimising for businesses that want to attract local customers. Our plan of action involved:

  • Technical SEO and Site Audit: We conducted an in-depth analysis to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Keyword Research and URL Mapping: Extensive research ensured optimal targeting and user journey structuring.
  • Local Pages Consolidation: Redirecting to a main landing page improved focus and clarity.
  • Citation Building: To enhance local ranking authority.
  • Content Cleanup: We eliminated duplicate content and addressed keyword cannibalisation.
  • Local Business Schema Markup: Implemented for better SERP visibility.
  • Google Business Profile Optimisation: Continuous updates and refinements were made.
  • Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO) and User Experience (UX): Improvements made it easier for visitors to make inquiries.
  • New User-Friendly Mega Navigation (MegaNav): Enhancing site usability and navigation.
  • Content Audit and On-Site SEO Strategy: We optimised existing content and developed new content for quick wins.

While we saw results quite quickly, it wasn’t all smooth sailing; the main stumbling block was the company’s existing CMS system not enabling us to implement all the necessary changes on-page. As such, we supported the business to move to a CMS which allowed much more flexibility.

Over the last 16 months, we’ve helped the accountancy firm grow their business in the capital, attracting new clients and increasing their return on investment. Amongst other things we have:

  • Increased London-specific keywords by 10.5 positions.
  • Improved organic traffic by 206%.
  • Had an uplift in page 1 Keywords: Increased from one to 20.
  • Had a 261% increase in the top 100 keywords.
  • Improved website engagement by 22%.
  • Increased the number of completed enquiry forms by 116%.
  • Achieved position 1 for the highly competitive “accountant London” in the local map pack and rank position 1 for three key London keywords.

This recognition is a testament to the Smart Monkey team’s hard work and dedication, especially as a small, specialist B2B SEO agency. Being recognised for our work isn’t why we do what we do, but it is a great bonus that gives the team an extra boost.
